Treat Mom to Mountains and Memories
Mother’s Day will be on May 8th this year, so now is the time to start planning a Mother’s Day Getaway for the women who do so much for everyone else. What better way to show the thanks and appreciation a mother so richly deserves than to treat her to a weekend of carefree fun in the Smokies?
Choosing a cabin is the starting point for the perfect weekend. Heartland Cabins is as far as you need to look. These extra-clean cabins are located close to all the events and activities that will make the Mother’s Day weekend special. With easy access to Dollywood, dinner theaters, arts and crafts, and shopping, and with Mothers Day Free Attraction Passes to several area attractions, Heartland Cabins will make mom’s stay easy and fun-filled.
Once you get settled into a Heartland Cabin, head over to the Parkway in Pigeon Forge to see the Dolly Homecoming Parade. On Friday, May 6th, beginning at 6 p.m., this free event will feature floats, marching bands, and, of course, Dolly Parton herself coming back home. The parade will run from traffic lights #6-#3 on the Parkway.
For even more parade fun during your Mother’s Day Weekend, check out the annual Shriners’ Funfest Parade featuring floats and the famous Shriner minicars. The parade starts at 9 a.m. and runs from Methodist St. to Jake Thomas Rd. in Pigeon Forge.
After the parade, enjoy a lovely springtime drive over to Townsend for the Craft Fair at Nawger Nob Village. On both Saturday and Sunday dozens of craftsmen will display their wares. It’ll be the perfect opportunity to let Mom pick out a beautiful piece to mark the getaway weekend.

Most mothers love getting flowers for Mother’s Day, but this year you can do something different. Rather than buying a bouquet that will simply sit on a table back at your cabin, you can get out and see some blooms in the wild. Early May sees a multitude of blossoms in the Smokies. Choose from one of the many easy hikes throughout the National Park and keep a sharp eye out for Wild Lily-of-the-Valley, Spring-Beauty, Yellow Star Grass, Blue-eyed Grass, Showy Orchis, or one of the many Trillium species that appear close to the trails. When you watch for wildflowers, you get both blooms and memories with Mom. And, really, isn’t that the best Mother’s Day gift of all?
