2016 Ober Gatlinburg Bavarian Celebration
When the month of October rolls around, you can be sure that celebrations of Oktoberfest will take place everywhere. Appropriately enough, the central location for all things German in Gatlinburg is Ober Gatlinburg. From September 23rd through October 30th, join in the rollicking good times at the 7th Annual OktOBERfest. This indoor/outdoor festival will be filled with Bavarian Fun, Music, and Food.
And really, it’s all about the Bavarian food, much of which are staples in local Barvaria: Schnitzel, Bratwurst, Strudel, Pretzels and Sauerkraut. The Seasons of Ober Restaurant switches to its Oktoberfest menu, which features Bavarian selections from appetizers to entrees to desserts.
You might start with Neujahr Pretzels, a jumbo pretzel with cheese and mustard sauces. Or that’s too much bread, get things started with a Wurst Salat, a mixed greens salad topped with marinated German luncheon meat.
Authentic Bavarian Food
Once you’ve whetted your appetite, move on to something more filling, like a Frikadelle. Served on pretzel bread, this combination of German Wurst, ground beef and pork will hit the spot. Or maybe go for Kohlrouladen if you prefer a cabbage stuffed with seasoned beef and rice.
Surely you’ll still have room for something sweet, right? How about some Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte with its layers of Black Forest cake, chocolate cream, and cherries with a whipped cream topping.
And to wash all that food down? Beer, of course. This is Oktoberfest, after all. At the Outdoor Bier Garten, you can sample one of the many German beers, for guests 21 and over. There’s more to Oktoberfest than food and beer, though. Both guest’s that prefer the beer garden and those that prefer outdoor games, both options are available from Noon-6 p.m. (7 p.m. on Saturdays). The kids will love the free face painting on Saturdays and Sundays too!
What Oktoberfest would be complete without some rousing German tunes? The Bavarian Fun Makers Oompah Band will delight the audience each day during several shows. Wearing the traditional Bavarian Lederhosen, the Oompah Band will appear at the Seasons of Ober Restaurant. Be sure to get there early so you don’t miss the show! Showtimes are:
