Cowboy Cooking
Turn off those westerns and throw on your boots for an authentic trip to bygone days March 3rd and 4th in Pigeon Forge Tennessee! Ten chuck wagon teams will compete to the delight of your palate during the Pigeon Forge 2018 Chuck Wagon Cookoff. Just like the chuck wagons of old that kept the cowboys tanked up during the long, hard cattle drives, this fun weekend will offer some good, solid grub that’ll make you glad you turned your horse toward camp.
Load up the family on Saturday, March 3rd and hit Clabough’s Campground at 9 sharp for the kickoff of Buckaroo Roundup activities for the little ones (free of charge) that’ll go on until 3 p.m. Duck under the tent from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. for Western poetry and live music for all ages featuring Andy Nelson and Marshal Andy and The Riders of the Silver Screen Band.
Keep your snacks to a minimum so you can filler up at the highlight of the whole day: The Chuck Wagon Luncheon. You might not be standing on a wind-whipped prairie waiting for your portion, but you’ll be just as happy to see your plate as the cowboys of old always were! Tickets ($12.50) are limited so hop online and grab yours today! You can also rustle some up onsite at the event, but don’t wait too long to get there. There will be plenty of parking at Clabough’s Campground (405 Wears Valley Road) or at Wear Farm Park (623 Wears Valley Road). The kids will learn a bit about how things were done on the range as they watch cooks prepare great food with basic ingredients meant to satisfy the hungry cowboy hordes! It will be a living history lesson they’ll treasure.
Saturday night, the fun will culminate at 6 p.m. at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort at 2525 DreamMore Way. Enjoy cowboy poetry and music with Western entertainers Andy Nelson and RW Hampton.
On Sunday, March 4 at 8:30 a.m., bring your appetites to a breakfast bonanza fit for a, well, free-wheeling, high-flying range-rider! The Chuck Wagon Breakfast at Stages West in Pigeon Forge will get you fueled up and ready to worship during the final event of a fun-filled, weekend; Cowboy Church (10:30 a.m., also at Stages West). This service is a fitting end to a weekend devoted to good, clean family fun. Bring old friends and make new ones, too.
