24th Annual Pigeon Forge Quiltfest
While it remains true that nothing spells home and comfort like a handcrafted quilt, today’s quilters have elevated the craft to an awe-inspiring art form. The Smokies are a hub of craftsmanship and artistry, so it’s no surprise that quilters and quilt fans from all over the country will converge on Pigeon Forge Tennessee for the 2018 A Mountain Quiltfest event March 20-24 at the Pigeon Forge LeConte Convention Center, sharing ideas and learning new techniques. The public will have the chance to view an amazing array of quilts showcasing both the artistry and the intense labor poured into this exciting craft that has captivated millions of hobbyists and professionals alike around the globe in recent years. Quilting is not reserved for grandmas in rocking chairs in this day and time! Get up close and personal with intricate designs. Meet quilters on the cutting edge who are perfecting new designs and adding new twists to traditional methods at an event that has become known as one of the most prestigious of its kind in the Southeast!
Register today at A Mountain Quiltfest 2018 and get set for several days of demonstrations, classes and fun with other quilters, including longarm quilting classes taught by Dawn Cavanaugh, APQS National Education Director. There will be a professional appraiser on hand to help you determine the value of those quilted works of art you have poured so many hours (and money in materials) into. Find their true worth and get inspired to turn 2018 into your most creative and productive year ever!
Perhaps the most exciting element of A Mountain Quiltfest is the multi-faceted competition. Eighteen categories ranging from “Large Hand-Quilted” to “Small Themed Quilt” and everything in between will offer winners the chance to win cash prizes totaling $20,00 (all prizes combined)! All 2018 A Mountain Quiltfest participants are invited to bring their work to a special “Show and Tell” session after which very special door prizes including a Sewing Center sewing machine will be awarded. Classes begin on Tuesday, March 20th at 8:30 a.m. and the show is open to the public beginning on Wednesday at 9 a.m. The quilt show runs through Saturday, opening each day at 9 and closing at 5 with the exception of Saturday, when it closes at 4 p.m. There will be quilt industry vendors on hand from Wednesday through Saturday to help satisfy your stash and tool needs (and desires), so bring your friends and an appetite for fun! This very large and very exciting crafting event may inspire your non-quilting friends to learn this time-tested yet rapidly evolving art form.
There is so much to do in the Smokies, your down time between classes and in the evenings will be enveloped by shopping, dining and wonderful variety shows! Take advantage of special offers from Heartland Rentals vacation cabins to stay a bit longer than the show and spend some time in the mountains hiking and taking in the joys of spring here in our neck of the woods. The change of seasons is a glorious thing in the mountains. Spring is truly the advent of new life here! Come to A Mountain Quiltfest and leave revived AND inspired!
