June 2017 Fun Things to Do in the Smokies
Celebrate summer and family vacations with special events and fun things to do all throughout Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville this June. In addition to these local events, your visit won’t be complete until you have a picnic, hike a trail or wade a creek in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The wonderful thing is, while these events are scheduled for specific dates and times, the National Park is always open and you can easily fit in some outdoor adventures too!
Synchronous Fireflies: May 30-June 6
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is home to the annual end of May – early June synchronous firefly gathering that offers a splendid light show in the Elkmont area of the park. Advance ticket purchases required for traveling to Elkmont.
1-4: Dollywood Barbeque & Bluegrass Festival – Ten-day Bluegrass music festival at Dollywood TN featuring hundreds of free concerts performed by top names in Bluegrass and smokin’ southern BBQ! Visit Market Square for delicious BBQ favorites. Park your vehicle at Patriot Park or right here in the Convention Center parking lot and ride the trolley!
2: Relay for Life – Annual cancer patients, survivors, and caretakers fundraising and awareness event at Patriot Park in Pigeon Forge from 4-9 p.m. Includes Survivors Lap, Caretakers Lap, Luminaria Bags and Closing Ceremony. 2-3: Pontiacs in Pigeon Forge Car Show & Swap Meet – If you love classic Pontiacs—Firebirds, Fieros, GTOs and Lemans to name a few—you’ll want to rent a cabin in Pigeon Forge so you don’t miss this car show now it’s 17th year. 2-3: Project Appleseed – The Revolutionary War Veterans Association event dedicated to promoting civic responsibility through the teaching of colonial history and the American tradition of rifle marksmanship. Event held at Wears Valley Ranch, Sevierville TN.
3: National Trails Day – Today is the day to get out and enjoy the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Nationwide, parks are celebrating Trails Day, hoping to bring awareness of and enjoyment through hiking in your local park. Search for Trails Day events taking place in the Smokies and near you. 3: Jeeps and Peeps – Jeep Girls of the Smokies Jeep Club invites you to a spring Jeep cruise-in at Quaker Steak & Lube in Sevierville from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
3, 10, 17, 24: Gatlinburg Farmers Market – Shop our local farmer’s market for locally grown fruit and veggies, and locally made good stuff in the Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community at the Covered Bridge on Glades Road. 9-11: MAGMA Gaming Event – MAGMA (Mountain Animation, Gaming, and Media Alliance) is returning to Pigeon Forge for their annual convention with a primary focus is gaming and multi-media, but will have gaming tournaments, exhibitors, artists, and industry guests as well as plenty of other interactive entertainment. 9-July 29: Smoky Mountain Tunes & Tales – Your family will love the street performances taking place each night along the strip in downtown Gatlinburg. Beginning at 6 p.m. each evening, you’ll find musicians, cloggers, storytellers and singers hitting the streets to perform for you each night through July 29! We love our Appalachian roots and this is a great event to introduce Gatlinburg fans to traditional entertainment.
10: Wears Valley Ranch Artisan Craft Sale – Mountain music, food and local craftsmanship come together for a great event in support of Wears Valley Ranch. Rain or shine 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
10, 24: Free Music Nights at Hard Rock Cafe – Head to the Hard Rock Cafe Pigeon Forge for free concerts from 10 p.m.-12 a.m.

17-August 6: Dollywood’s “Summer Live Here” Great American Summer Celebration – Celebrate your all-American love of family, food and fun at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge. Park is open longer – 10 a.m.-10 p.m. – for a full 12 hours of thrill rides, special live entertainment, and great summer cooking at onsite restaurants from. Be sure to stick around for Dolly’s Nights of Many Colors fireworks show every night at 9:30 p.m. Dollywood.com.
17-August 12: Free Parkway Trolley – Nine weeks of free trolley rides! If you love to walk, shop and dine in downtown Gatlinburg, take advantage of free trolley service that allows you to get on and off as often as you’d like between traffic lights #1 and #10. Trolley runs from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. every day.
17-September 4: Titanic Movie Costumes Display – View costumes featured in James Cameron’s “Titanic Movie” in honor of the movie’s 20th Anniversary. See all Titanic Pigeon Forge events.
19: Happy Father’s Day! Treat Dad to a special getaway in the Smokies for a Father’s Day he’ll never forget. He can go fishing, golf, ride go-karts and mountain coasters, or just kick back and relax. Every day is great in the Smokies, and Dad’s Day makes it even more special.
